By far the largest beach patrol on Long Beach Island, the Long Beach Township Beach Patrol offers one of the best lifeguard training programs around. Lifeguards are trained in a special ocean safety course or in the "Lifeguard in Training" program also called "LIT". The LIT program accepts young aspiring guards and teaches them the ins and outs of protecting the beaches. This results in some of the most professional and best trained guards on Long Beach Island. All guards are CPR certified and take special medical courses.
Harvey Cedars offers an extensive LIT program as well as medical training for all lifeguards. Although much smaller than Long Beach Township, Harvey Cedars has well trained lifeguards who are professional and well trained!
